A different take on the classic Jaffa's flavour. Soft sweet cookies with chunks of dark chocolate and a zesty finish of orange. These Orange Chocolate Chunk Cookies are a hit!
Honestly, I forgot how good a simple chocolate-chunk cookie like this could be. Just simple ingredients with your own little twist can be so delicious. I love the addition of the orange; it brings a nice citrus twist and a balance to the sweetness of it all. Tip: The chunkier the chocolate chips, the better!
It’s hard to only stop with one of these Orange Chocolate Chunk Cookies, so I say treat yourself and why not go for two or even three? They won’t last for very long; you may as well have as many as you can!

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, room temperature, very soft
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup caster sugar
- One egg
- One egg yolk
- zest of 1/2 orange
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 4 1/2 tsp juice of an orange
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 290g dark chocolate chips
Method
- Beat together the softened butter and the sugars with a handheld electric mixer or by hand until smooth and slightly lighter in colour.
- Add in the egg and egg yolk and mix until well combined.
- Then mix in the orange zest, vanilla and orange juice.
- Mix in the flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; when it’s almost come together, add in the chocolate chips and mix until just combined. We don’t want to over-mix!
- Scoop into balls; I used a generous soup spoon scoop and got about 16 cookies. (I prefer to make them taller than wider to get a chunkier cookie).
- Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper. (They can be placed relatively close together to chill)
- Chill in the fridge for an hour minimum or freezer for 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees about halfway through the chilling time.
- Once the oven has preheated, cook for 10-12 minutes, 6-8 at a time; depending on your tray size, you want them to have room to spread.
- Store in an airtight container. These cookies also freeze well.
